A Day for the History Books

When T saw all the flags waving on the mall during the lead-up to the inauguration, he ran to the closet and got all our flags and then went crazy with them. He was also excited to learn that the name of President Obama's wife is Michelle.

Very cool photo! I blanked on bringing a flag for Asher to wave yesterday. Oh well.

That reminds me... did you see Obama had to retake the oath? I wondered about that because as it happened, in the back of my mind I thought "if this was sacrament meeting, the bishop would be looking over and telling them to do it again."

(And yes, I'm sure only Mormons probably thought that.)

But I guess it turns out that, much like the sacrament and baptismal prayers, there is a precise wording to the oath that you can't deviate from. Funny.

After your comment, I went and found the retaking of the oath. Those were my thoughts EXACTLY during the inauguration--do the words have be in the perfect order, like the sacrament prayers??

It was funny reading the reaction from lawyers and scholars. I think part of them was like "yeah, do it again, just to be sure."

But they also didn't want to poo-poo it completely because, gee, 2 million people came out to see it in person and maybe, technically, they DIDN'T see him get sworn in. Which would be a crushing thought, especially for those who came a long way.
