Calling all book suggestions...

Ok, all you readers out there. Next month, my book group is going to be picking the books we read for 2010. Give me your ideas for interesting, well written books that would make for great discussion. I have a few ideas up my sleeve, but I want to see what you suggest.

The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell. She's funny, the history's interesting, and you'll never look at Thanksgiving the same way again.

Also, check out IndieBound's monthly lists of picks -- these are books chosen by the Independent Bookseller's Association, and they are usually pretty good.

Wednesday Wars, I Capture the Castle, Al Capone Does my Shirts. I'll think of some more.

Brooke--I have been wanting to read Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation. I love her on This American Life. I'll check her out. Thanks! And thanks for the link. What a great resource.

Mad Hadder--We did I Capture the Castle a couple of years back (I have to say it wasn't my favorite, though) and I read Wednesday Wars a while ago. It's a great one. Thanks. And let me know if you have any more ideas. I'm thinking The Help would be a great one to discuss, but I think it will be hard to get library copies for a while to come.

Kage--Fun to see you around these parts. Poisonwood Bible is a great pick. I think that there were a few women who were interested in reading this one for next year.

Malsy--we do everything. All sorts of fiction and non-fiction. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I have been thinking about The Book Thief--that would be a great one.

Poisonwood Bible would be such a good one for book group. I would LOVE to discuss it. Hopefully there would be a variety of takes instead of just, "Oh my gosh it was so great and the US is a big baddie and now I know everything about the Congo."

The Help would be perfect.

I recommend Team of Rivals. I'm almost finished and it is superb.

Happy Birthday! I'll have to use that babysitter all day idea. I'm desperate for some new reads and knew where to come!

Margo--are you on GoodReads? I have been really lousy about writing about book here, but keep track on GoodReads pretty well.
